This is my story continued…Age-12
The Village was peaceful that morning. All around was the usual noise of shops lining the street and buyers conversing, as they walked around looking at the jewelry, fine linen and food that was being sold. Occasionally there were “Oohs” and “Ahhs” as people were shown something incredibly unique.
Breaking the peace, from around the corner they heard a loud laughing, many heads turned, only to hop out of the way of a large Mountain lion, as it came rushing through the street and sitting on the back of it was Narc, a 15 year-old boy, who was supposed to be the Prophesied child (Though no one told him). He was joyfully and excitedly shouting behind him “Catch me if you can!”
Chasing after him -red-faced and out-of-breath- was the Shaman of the clan. -A large woman with long red hair and high cheekbones- She stopped took a breath and started chasing him again, shouting all the while:
“Get back here, young man!”
Narc came to the edge of a cliff and stopping he got off the Mountain lion and pet its head saying:
“I think we lost her girl”
He turned round and came face-to-face with none other than the Shaman. She was out of breath and panting hard. After about few minutes of catching her breath, she raised up and said
“Narc, You are in so much trouble, you’re gonna wish you hadn’t have done that”
She reached out and grabbed hold of his ear, pulling him towards her she got him in a head-lock and began dragging him back to camp. Narc fought for freedom, finally after several minutes, he weaseled out of her grip, ran to the cliff edge and did a front-flip off. The Shaman screamed and ran to the edge and peered down, only to jump back as Narc flew past her with huge black wings laughing again with delight. He then flew back to the town with the Mountain lion and the Shaman chasing him.
How to describe the feeling of flying? Was the thought going through Narc’s head as the wind rushed past his face and made his ears whistle, He still remembered the first time he took flight. He had been 7 when it happened; he had been playing at the peak of the mountain, lifting his blanket into the wind, giggling whenever it got caught by the breeze, when a strong wind came and blew hard on the blanket, pulling Narc along behind it, until he reached the edge, tumbling over.
All he remembers about falling was the ground coming up fast, a tingling in his back and next thing he knew he was hovering a few feet above the ground, he landed, looking around at what had caught him and saw the two massive black wings, he practiced with them in secret every day after that. The day he decided to tell the Shaman was a wonderful day, he still remembered seeing her face when he landed in front of her.
Breaking his thought was the nearing town in the distance. Narc flew toward his tent, landed in front and strolled in. A few minutes later and the Mountain Lion entered, yawning and stretching it curled up next to Narc’s feet as he sat down on his bed. Unfortunately his peace didn’t last long as the Shaman burst into the tent, red-faced and panting hard.
“Narc, I am not happy with you” said the Shaman boiling with anger “First: You went and ran off, leaving no message or anything of where you had gone.”
Narc went to say something but she cut him off saying “Second: You burst through town riding on a Mountain lion of all things” the Mountain lion looked up at the Shaman growling.
“Leave her alone” Narc said with a smile nudging the Mountain lion with his foot
“And Third: I have tried raising you as I think your Mother—Bless her soul—Would have wanted me to” said the Shaman pausing for breath “But You Are making this Way Too Hard.”
She turned round and began to walk out of the tent stopping only to say:
“Your Grounded, you will work, eat and sleep”
“What!”Narc said retaliating “That’s not fair”
“Well, next time you want to go and do something stupid like that.” said the Shaman “You remember this: If you ever do that again the punishment Will be worse, Understand?
“Yes, Mam” said Narc through gritted teeth
“Good” said the Shaman as she threw the flap open and walked out
“Great now I’m stuck inside” said Narc after the Shaman left
“I know you were only trying to enjoy yourself, but she has a point” said the Mountain Lion curled at his feet as she looked up at him
“You know, I’m really starting to hate the fact that I can talk to animals” said Narc with a sour expression “Besides you sound like her”
“Because I care for your safety?” said the Mountain lion
“Whatever” said Narc
A screech sounded, startling Narc. He turned to the corner of the tent and saw a Hawk perched at his desk observing him and the Mountain lion with sharp eyes.
“Oh, hello Nitis, I didn’t see you there” said Narc
“That was the point, I didn’t want to get noticed by your friend there said Nitis pointing his beak at the Mountain lion
“Hey! She’s actually really nice, she gave me a ride, wait a sec…Why do I keep calling you ‘She’?” said Narc “I think you should have a proper name. Hmm…Let’s see… What’s a good name for you? Oh! I’ve got it! How about ‘Lubaya’? It means young lioness”
“I would be more than honored to be named Lubaya” said the Lioness
“Then the Great Lubaya it will be” said Narc smiling
The tent flap opened to reveal the General of the tribe, one of Narc’s great friends
“Hello Narc” said the General with a smile on his face
“Hello General” responded Narc with a smile also on his face.
The General went to take a step forward but held back he then asked with a worried expression
“Your friend there is not going to eat me is she?” asked the General indicating the mountain lion. Narc laughed out loud and replied “No, Lubaya won’t bite”
“Nice name” said the General he walked to Narc’s bed and sat down
“I got bad news for you Narc” said the General sadly. Narc looked at him with a worried look “What is it?”
The General looked at him with a frown on his face then slowly smiled and began to laugh raucously “Got ya” he said.
“Hey!” Narc shouted and launched himself across the bed at the General, taking the General by surprise as Narc landed on top of him
“Oh that’s how you want to go huh?” asked the General as he grabbed Narc and threw him to the floor, bashing his head on the ground hard enough to hurt others but not a Gladstone, Narc brought his legs up and kicked the General off throwing him into the dresser. Narc stuck his legs in the air, kicked and threw himself up to lean against the tent pole.
“You sure you want to do this General?” asked Narc calmly
“Of Course, but I get to play my way” said the General as he pulled out some gloves with steel studs, Narc recognized those gloves, and he’d seen them knock down trees when they were punched with them.
“Ok, your way” said Narc as he pulled his tunic off, showing his fit muscles, he tossed the tunic on the bed “Let’s go”
“Wait, let’s take this outside” said the General putting his hands up “Wouldn’t want to break anything”
“Lead the way” said Narc putting his hands out to indicate to the General to lead.
The General strolled out of the tent with his chin held high and Narc following after him, he led Narc to a small clearing of meadow scattered with rocks and boulders a few wildflowers, the town on one side, mountains on the other
“Now I’m ready” said the General as he punched the air in front of him preparing himself. Narc simply laced his fingers together turned them out towards him and popped his fingers
When the General was ready he put his fists down, called towards the town and said
“Come watch one and all, as I take down little old Narc here!”
A few people turned and walked to watch, the General reached out pointed to one of the villagers—a man named Lore—and asked:
“Lore, would you be as kind as to judge this fight?”
“I would be more then glad to” responded Lore with a smirk
The General and Narc stepped close together shook hands a little harder than necessary, Lore came up placed his hand on their hands and counted
“1…2…3…Go!” then quickly he jumped back as Narc and the General launched back from each other, the General bringing his fists up to protect any blow to the face, Narc simply stood there, arms folded, and smiling.
The General took the first move, running up to punch Narc in the gut only to punch thin air as Narc had leapt over the General, done a flip and landed ten feet from where he was. The General was dumbfounded but quickly recovered as he went in for a kick this time aiming for Narc’s head.
Narc reached out and blocked the General’s foot with his left arm, only to reach out with his right and punch the General in the stomach, the General jumped back and held his stomach in pain.
“That’s some punch you got there Narc” said the General as more crowd gathered
“Thank you, General” Narc responded
“It’s too bad, I’m going to have to break it” said the General as he jumped out and lunged for Narc, Narc simply sidestepped and let the General drop to the ground and land on his face. The General swung his arm out and tripped Narc making Narc land on his back. The General jumped back and backed off of Narc. Narc lifted himself from the ground onto his hands and knees and turned to the crowd surprised to see the Shaman amongst the people
She had a smirk on her face, and tilted her head to the General, Narc knew that meant to end this, Narc got off the ground and turned to the General, his eyes of gold locked on to the General’s green ones. The General went in for another kick aiming for Narc’s stomach this time, Narc simply sidestepped the General and blew Cold air onto him, instantly the General froze, Narc reached out and knocked him over, he hit the ground with a thud, Narc ran over to him
“I win” Narc said turning to Lore “Am I right?
“I’d be lying if I said you lost” said Lore with a grin
“Good” turning back to the General he said “Consider this match over, General, because I have to return to my tent.”
Narc then lifted himself up off the ground and turned around walking as proud as he could mange right back into his tent.
Nitis and Lubaya turned to him
“Did you have to freeze him?” asked Nitis
“Shut up, Nitis” said Narc as he laid down on his bed and fell asleep
